Diamond 580ALR Punch Pink Fountain pen by TWSBI – a sophisticated model for sophisticated writing
All TWSBI fountain pen models are the result of a dream by a man who once had the idea of inventing the perfect writing instrument. To do this, he needed the informed opinion of pen enthusiasts, whom he asked to describe the characteristics of their ideal pen in a questionnaire.
After compiling all the answers, several of them emerged. It turned out that the ideal pen should not roll off the table when opened. It should also be easy to use, solid, reliable and aesthetically pleasing. And it had to be moderately priced.
The ideal fountain pen:
The first TWSBI fountain pen to be made had a transparent body with several facets, so that it would not roll off the table when placed on the table; had an integrated piston filling system for the ink, the level of which could be seen; and was made of acrylic resin for its weight and strength. Its nib was made of steel.
TWSBI also felt that the owner should be able to dismantle and reassemble the pen easily. A small metal spanner was therefore inserted into the base of the box, and a small bottle of silicone was added for the maintenance of the plunger. For TWSBI, the pen had to combine both tradition and modernity.
The Diamond 580ALR has all the features of the first fountain pen for which the brand is famous. Made of acrylic resin, the Diamond 580ALR is equipped with aluminium trim in punch pink colour. Its integrated piston filling mechanism is operated by unscrewing the end of the body. The piston rod is made of machined aluminium. An internal device in the cap – embossed with the brand’s logo – prevents the nib from drying out when the pen is closed.

The Diamond 580ALR Punch Pink Fountain pen by TWSBI is supplied with a small key and silicone grease. The latter, however, should only be used on the plunger sparingly and over time.

Fer de lance de TWSBI, le Diamond 580 dans sa version améliorée AL-R est une référence : équilibré, raffiné grâce à l’aluminium anodisé profilé, il semble être une prolongation de soi dans l’exercice d’écriture.
Conception taïwanaise, plume fabriquée en Allemagne (taille #5.5) : la taille du trait de plume est de fait typée “orientale” et plus fine que les stylos et plumes germaniques ou américains.
Paré d’une plume F, il apparaît malheureusement “gratter” énormément, malgré une comparaison avec un TWSBI Vac 700R (F) et un TWSBI Eco (M).
Outil d’écriture donc plus complexe à appréhender, plus exigeant, sans doute lié à une tenue en main idéale plus restrictive.
