This is a real work of art from the Japanese brand. The Raden Ama-iro Jiu is made of ebonite and has been covered with urushi lacquer and decorated with raden patterns.

Urushi lacquer is made from the sap of an Asian tree, the Chines lacquer tree. In addition to enhancing the beauty of the objects it is used on, it also makes them more resistant and durable. Raden technique consists in engraving a shell and inlaying it into a lacquered background. The word “raden” is composed of “ra”, meaning the shellfish in the shape of a spiral, and “den”, meaning the decoration with the shell.

The Japanese master lacquerer first covered the fountain pen with several layers of black urushi lacquer, which gives it an unparalleled shine and brilliance. He then painted the upper part of the barrel and cap with green lacquer and decorated the fountain pen with lines of raden, before covering the model with new layers of lacquer and polishing it. This manual, artisanal work requires several weeks of concentration and patience.

The iridescent colours of the raden patterns literally play with the light and are reminiscent of the northern lights dancing in the sky.

Taccia has aesthetically matched the stylised clip to the colour of the fountain pen. The brand has numbered its model on the top of the body since it was designed in 35 copies.
