This notebook from Japanese brand Tomoe River has a soft cover printed with a delightful border. With a glued square-back finish, its paper is particularly suited to writing with a fountain pen or calligraphy nib, as well as pencil drawings.

This A5 notebook has 160 smoothly coated pages on both sides. The paper weighs just 52g/m2 and won’t allow ink to bleed or bleed through. Its plain pages allow you to write and draw.

First of all, we need to distinguish between Japanese nibs and European/American nibs. For the same line thickness given by the manufacturers, Japanese nibs will be thinner than European/American nibs. So an F nib from Sailor will correspond to an EF nib. Jowo (German nib).

Stub

A nib with a point that is wider than it is high, enabling you to make thick vertical strokes and fine horizontal strokes, more commonly known as full and loose strokes.

IT (Italic): this has the same characteristics as the Stub, but its flat tip and angled ends mean that it is less flexible in the typeface.
