The expert’s opinion: to say that this fountain pen is an exceptional object is an understatement. What is perhaps a little surprising at first is its size – imposing – as well as its diameter, which makes it much more suitable for a man, especially as its weight is far from negligible. Everything about this pen is impressive: first of all its design, then its colour and of course its superb two-tone nib which, borrowed from Namiki, plays its role with almost diabolic precision. The Custom Urushi is without doubt one of Pilot’s most beautiful pens. Made on an ebonite base, the barrel and cap have been carefully coated with the famous Urushi lacquer, using the Roiro lacquering technique, a speciality of the maki-e (Kokkokai school) craftsmen in Japan, thus sublimating the object. This lacquer, which comes exclusively from the sap of the Japanese varnish tree (an Asian tree), has been used for thousands of years as a protection once it has been applied to objects and dried.
The lacquer has this incredible ability to resist corrosion, scratches and even impacts. This type of fountain pen therefore has an exceptional lifespan which can easily extend over several generations. The colour of this lacquer varies according to its exposure to light, generating incomparable shades, brilliance and shine. Many coats are necessary to achieve such a result, but also a considerable investment of time, since each coat will require a drying time that can vary from 3 to 7 days. Depending on the number of layers, which can be up to 20, long weeks and often several months are needed to create such a piece to which a meticulous finishing work must not be forgotten.
The Custom Urushi, imposing in size, is equipped with gold-plated trims. On its cap, several rings of the most beautiful effect have been placed, including a central ring on which the name of the model has been carefully engraved in black.
A magnificent two-tone nib (24 mm long) in 18-carat gold No. 30 borrowed from Namiki has been chosen for a unique writing experience. It is available in three sizes: MF, M and B.

Si vous voulez faire l’expérience d’un stylo unique en son genre qui vous marquera pour longtemps – même en tant que connaisseur ou collectionneur, essayez le CUSTOM URUSHI – Bleu (MF) … mais attention c’est dangereusement addictif…
Ce stylo utilisable au quotidien est un des plus beaux achats de ma collection. Il n’est pas donné certes, mais je vous confirme qu’il vaut vraiment l’investissement sans aucun regret. Que du pur Bonheur.
