Professional Gear Kanreki Limited Edition Fountain pen by Sailor – a magnificent fountain pen dominated by its symbolism and the quality of its nib
It took a particularly keen sense of aesthetics to combine three colours of the same tone. It also took some boldness to do it on a pen, and the designers at Sailor were right, because the least we can say is that the gamble was more than successful for “The Kan”, another name for Kanreki. The beautiful carmine red body matches the wine red cap as well as the garnet red tips of the fountain pen itself.
The model celebrates the Kanreki festival, which honours a person’s 60th birthday. In Japan, turning 60 is synonymous with rebirth, as it represents a return to the zodiac of one’s birth after five turns of the zodiac. Turning 60 is therefore a wonderful opportunity to start afresh. Red is the colour of honour in this tradition: it is illustrated in the colour of the costume worn by the person celebrating his or her Kanreki. In Japan, this colour is associated with prosperity, luck and birth.
Made of resin, the Kanreki fountain pen has a thin ring at the top of the barrel and what might appear at the section to be a second ring, but is in fact the upper part of the thread. On the cap, brand aficionados will recognise the famous ring engraved with the brand name and embellished with the diminutive KAN. At the top of the cap is the brand’s symbol: the magnificent anchor on a black background surrounded by a gold circle and enhanced by the colour garnet-red. All the trims are gold-plated.
Its nib:
The beautifully engraved nib is also made of 21-carat yellow gold. It also has the remarkable feature of being 24-carat gold-plated. It is available in three sizes: EF, F and M.
