The expert’s opinion: the least I can say is that this pen is a dream to hold in the hand. Although it is much larger than the size I am used to, it is pleasant to hold and can be used quite quickly. Although the length of the nib is at odds with much more traditional nibs, it fulfills its role with incredible elegance when allowed to run freely over the paper. The extra pleasure it generates as it glides along with ease and precision is undeniable. Whatever the variations and pressures, it does so brilliantly that I can’t help but wonder what its incredible secret is, so unusual is the experience. The very type of pen that one would keep preciously with oneself, that one would probably show to others if they asked, but that one would always entrust with great reluctance, even for a few moments. The price of what is precious.

Apart from the fact that the 1911 King of Pens Yellow Mandarin is a limited edition, the famous yellow colour, which is so popular with collectors, is associated with a whole series of symbols. In Asia, it represents the sun and its life force. It is also the centre of the universe and the transition between seasons. In China, the colour is synonymous with prosperity, glory and happiness; in Japan, it represents strength and courage. When Mandarin is associated with the colour, it symbolises the powerful, literate and influential personality.
In a more prosaic sense, this pen is a true marvel as the yellow colour illuminates the object. All of its attributes are rhodium-plated, including the superb central ring. The attentive observer will discover the brand name engraved on it, followed by the year of its creation, as well as the inscription in capital letters “THE KING OF PEN”.
The size of the rhodium-plated 21-carat gold nib embodies the power of these symbols. It is imposing both in terms of its length, measuring 26 mm, and its width, which exceeds one centimetre (11 mm). It is available in sizes M and B.
