The expert’s opinion : we were looking forward to receiving this fountain pen, and to say the least, it far exceeded our expectations. At first glance, it’s clear that we’re dealing with a truly exceptional model. The Custom Enju is extremely pleasant to hold, as is the sensation it gives you as soon as you pick it up. This is no doubt due to the natural material of which it is made. When the cap is removed, the contrast between the wood and the black resin of the section is striking. Then there’s a succession of details that are unique to the brand and a hallmark of its quality. For example, the large gold-plated central ring is magnificently crafted, and features the “Art Craft” engraving, a precision far from usurped. The threads in the section and inside the body are in metal. The finish of the woodwork is quite simply remarkable. The two flats at the ends of the fountain pen are darker and illustrate the uniqueness of the material. The superb two-tone No. 15 nib glides over the paper with ease and pleasure. It’s so pleasant to use that we find ourselves filling the page without even realising it. The pleasure is the same whatever the medium (Japanese or Clairefontaine paper). The line is fine (F nib), with no interruption, and the flow is regular. The pleasure of writing is undeniable. After using it, we put it away in its leather case, impatient to get back to it as soon as possible. One thing is certain: it is out of the question to entrust it to anyone. Barring a few exceptions.

This majestic tree symbolises the path towards greater awareness and perception, filled with wisdom, peace and harmony. It’s certainly for this reason that Asians frequently plant them around pagodas, places of Buddhist worship, and have nicknamed them the “Japanese pagoda tree”.
Except for its section and the thread at the bottom of the body which are made of resine, the Custom Enju, whose name means, among others, sophora, is made from precious wood. The black colour of the resin contrasts nicely with the light brown colour of the resin. And because it’s made from natural wood and its own ribs, each model is unique.
Pilot has equipped its Custom Enju with gold-plated trims, including a majestic central ring, worked in detail and adorned with a magnificent engraving, including the words “Art craft”. As for the converter, the brand has chosen the one it reserves for its exceptional fountain pens: the push-button converter. It also contains a device that breaks up air bubbles.
