The expert’s opinion: if you love the brand, you’re probably already familiar with the Rei family. In myopinion, the Fukui is the most beautiful of them all. The lacquer technique used is simply stunning. Of course, the warm colours chosen by the artist contribute to the overall flamboyant aesthetic. But it’s when you take a closer look that you realise just how talented the Master lacquerer is. The motifs appear to be in relief, literally dancing when the fountain pen is twirled in the hand… A deep polish gives them shine and brilliance and a very soft feel. The extraordinary Sailor 21-carat gold nib is devilishly precise and glides along like a dream. If you want to add a Rei to your collection, this is the one I recommend.

The Rei Urushi series is a prestigious collection from the Sailor brand. The Fukui Wakasa-nuri model, designed by artist Atsushi Taniguchi, is one of the most sumptuous illustrations. Wakasa-nuri (marbling technique) is a traditional lacquering technique handed down from generation to generation in Obama, in Fukui prefecture. Obama, where wakasa-nuri originated, faces Wakasa Bay and offers a number of picturesque sites. Wakasa-nuri is a unique lacquering technique that involves creating patterns using shells, eggshells, pine leaves and other natural plants and trees. The fountain pen features motifs in red, yellow and orange on a black urushi lacquer background.
The body and cap are made from ebonite, while the section is made from resin. Unrivalled in its sobriety and refinement, this fountain pen features a cap whose perfect shape covers the object with flamboyant aestheticism. With no clip, it exudes extraordinary elegance. The central part is decorated with a stylised ring and a thin ring at the section. Both are gold-plated, as you’d expect from Sailor.
Its nib, in superbly engraved 21-carat gold, is available in size M.
The fountain pen – lying on royal blue velvet – is presented in a magnificent paulownia wood box (nicknamed the “imperial tree”) surrounded by a solid ribbon.

Ce stylo est une MERVEILLE sur tous les plans. Il invite au voyage, à la rencontre avec son créateur. Assurément, celui-là a mis tout son amour et son savoir-faire dans son œuvre.
D’un poids parfait, le stylo prend naturellement sa place dans la main. Sa plume glisse sur le papier et « nous raconte une histoire » à son contact. J’ai autant de plaisir à le regarder qu’à écrire avec.
