An exceptional fountain pen, the Souverän M1000 Raden Red Infinity was designed in Japan and manufactured in Germany in 400 copies worldwide. The model showcases the exceptional work of the Japanese with urushi lacquer and raden.

Urushi lacquer is made from the sap of an Asian tree known as Chinese lacquer tree. As well as enhancing the beauty of the objects it is used on, it makes them more resistant and durable. The raden technique involves to cut the interior covering of a shell and inlaying it into a lacquered background. The word “raden” is made up of “ra”, meaning shellfish, and “den”, meaning shell decoration.

An outstanding piece of work:

The Master artist covered the resin fountain pen with several layers of urushi lacquer, which he then sprinkled with silver powder: the shimmer of the red colour is of the most beautiful effect. He then cut pieces of mother-of-pearl from particles of Australian abalone shell. The green colour of these abalone shells is particularly limited, and therefore rare. He then fixed these rectangular stripes to the fountain pen with an additional layer of urushi lacquer.

The German brand has designed each model entirely by hand, making it unique, and has engraved the number on the top of the cap. The Master has also, appropriately, signed his work with a brush on the top of the body.

For Pelikan, the chosen motif has no beginning and no end, and represents continuity: a lucky motif that implies long family happiness, prosperity, development and professional success.

The brand has equipped its Souverän with an integrated piston filling system: when the top of the body is unscrewed, the magnificent gilded brass piston stem is revealed.

Pelikan has adorned its masterpiece with gold-plated trims: two fine rings at the top of the body announcing the piston button, a superb central ring engraved with the brand name and the name Souverän . Not forgetting the famous clip in the shape of a pelican’s beak and the magnificent finial at the top of the cap displaying the Pelikan logo.

The nib:

The two-tone nib, finely engraved and adorned with the brand’s logo, is made of 18-carat gold. Its length is impressive, measuring 27 mm. We offer it in EF, F, M and B line thickness.
